Remembering Operation Granby, 1990-1991

In 1990, 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards were called to action, deploying to the Persian Gulf to take part in the liberation of Kuwait, on Operation Granby. Here they remained until the Spring of 1991.

1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (QDG)

1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (QDG) is a cavalry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1959 by an amalgamation of the King's Dragoon Guards and the Queen's Bays. QDG is the senior Regiment of the Line in the British Army, and is known as 'The Welsh Cavalry' as it recruits from Wales and the Border Counties. For most of its existence, QDG has operated in a reconnaissance role.

In 1990 and 1991, QDG personnel deployed to the Middle East to take part in the 1st Gulf War.
